Program Requirements Documents

Program requirements documents are the authoritative source for Shuttle Orbiter/Cargo Interface definition and should be used by payload developers when considering those aspects of their design which utilize Shuttle Orbiter services. The requirements contained in the documents are based upon Orbiter design and capabilities and are controlled by the Space Shuttle Flight Operations and Integration Office at NASA/Johnson Space Center. Unique payload ICD's are derived from these documents.

Shuttle Orbiter/Cargo Standard Interfaces ICD 2-19001
Responsible Engineer: Hap Ehlers      Phone 281-226-8918
This document defines integration requirements for trunnion mounted payloads manifested in the Cargo Bay along with any associated Aft Flight Deck components.

Interface Definition Documents

International Space Station NSTS 21000-IDD-ISS
Responsible Engineer: Hap Ehlers    Phone 281-226-8918
This document defines integration requirements for trunnion mounted Space Station Cargo Elements manifested in the Cargo Bay along with any associated Aft Flight Deck components. This document also defines Space Station to Orbiter proximity and mated integration requirements.
Small Payloads NSTS 21000-IDD-SML
Responsible Engineer: Charles Winter  281-226-8558
This document defines integration requirements for payloads which are installed on Shuttle Program provided carriers attached to the Cargo Bay sidewalls. Typically small payloads have minimal power and avionics requirements and require little or no flight crew interaction during on-orbit operations.
Middeck Payloads NSTS 21000-IDD-MDK
Responsible Engineer: David Thompson   281-226-5696
This document defines integration requirements for payloads which are installed in Orbiter crew compartment middeck lockers during ascent and descent. Typically middeck payloads have minimal power and avionics requirements. These payloads generally require crew intervention for set up and oversight during on-orbit operations.
