Florida’s Jose Velez and Texas’ Michael Snyder were named United Space Alliance’s Employees of the Year at the 10th Annual Superior Achievement and Recognition Award (SARA) ceremonies held February 13 in Florida and February 16 in Texas. SARAs were also given at each location for outstanding accomplishments during the year in the categories of Safety, Quality, Leadership, Administrative Excellence, Technical Achievement, Teamwork and Community Service.
Nominees for the SARA awards are selected from the monthly Quest for Excellence (QFE) winners chosen by either the Florida or Texas Site Awards Boards. The QFE program reinforces the core beliefs and values of the company by promoting recognition available to all USA employees, honoring the spirit of innovation and manifesting the company’s vision, mission, goals and guiding principles.
The Employee of the Year Awards, selected from the SARA recipients by the Executive Awards Board, recognize top achievements that significantly contributed to the success of the space program.
This year’s Florida ceremony was held at the Radisson Resort at the Port Canaveral Conference Center, while the Texas event was held at the Hyatt Regency in Houston.
Both events featured a special video presentation that recognized the successful missions in 2006 and included executive interviews about USA’s current and future roles in the Space Shuttle, International Space Station and Constellation Programs. Following the video, USA President and Chief Executive Officer Mike McCulley kicked off both awards ceremonies with additional sentiments touting the superior work USA employees provide to the space program.
Guests also enjoyed live music, dancing and buffet dining to conclude the “red carpet” evening.
Since its inception in April 1997, USA’s QFE awards program has recognized more than 4,500 USA employees in Alabama, Florida and Texas.
