USA to Introduce Subsidiary to International Community

The New Space Flight Operations logo.In a major step toward pursuit of international and commercial opportunities, USA will introduce Space Flight Operations LLC, USA’s recently established subsidiary at the International Astronautical Congress (IAC) this month in Hyderabad, India.

“The international and commercial community is just beginning to understand the importance of spaceflight operations in the life cycle of a program,” said Neal Hammond, President of SFO and USA’s Vice President of Exploration Programs. “We want to make the community aware that through SFO, USA can offer extensive capabilities to a broader market.”

The IAC brings together aerospace executives from around the world to discuss business, technical and scientific innovations in the space industry. Hammond will emphasize the importance of designing space vehicles for operability during his speech at the IAC Business Conclave.

“The international character of space operations requires a new level of cooperation,” Hammond said. “The IAC presents a unique opportunity for USA to initiate that dialog.”

SFO has already secured three commercial contracts. The first is with the Japanese Space Agency’s operations contractor – Japanese Manned Space Systems (JAMMS) – to help bring their on-orbit International Space Station (ISS) segments online. Through SFO, USA will assess the customer’s operations approach and make efficiency recommendations as well as support flight operations and training objectives.

SFO has also signed an agreement with Space Exploration Technologies Corporation (SpaceX) to provide a wide range of space operations services to the company’s Falcon 1, Falcon 9 and Commercial Orbital Transportation Services (COTS) Program.

Information regarding the third agree- ment will be announced at a later date.

“We are very excited about extending our customer base on the international and commercial level,” Hammond said. “ USA has a lot to offer these customers, and we are ready to provide that.”
