USA employees immediately put the Quest Peer Recognition program to work following the recent introduction of the Quest Points Web site, with hundreds of individuals expressing their appreciation of their co-workers within the first few days of the new program.
“I’m very excited about the Quest Peer Recognition tool,” said Kari Fluegel, Manager of Employee Programs, which includes awards and recognition. “From the usage we’ve seen in just the first few days, I’m confident that this tool is going to be used frequently to acknowledge a lot of people.”
The Quest Peer Recognition tool is available on the new Quest Points Web site at www.usaquestpoints.com and is one of two initiatives introduced to employees in May.
Quest Peer Recognition is not accompanied by points, but many expect it to have a positive effect on employee morale.
“I think it will have a large impact (on morale),” said Patsy Spilios of the Project and Requirements Office in Florida, who was an early recipient of peer recognition. “I know that there are employees that have a wealth of information and may do the simplest thing by helping someone with something very small, which may not really warrant a large award like a Quest (Monthly) Award, Silver Snoopy or SFA Award. Just a simple thank you goes a long way. … Everyone likes a good pat on back once in a while.”
Lisa Chapman, Manager of Test Assembly Inspection Record (TAIR) Operations, also said peer recognition is important.
“We spend a lot of time with our co-workers, so getting positive feedback from a co-worker means a lot,” she said. “It’s good to know you are helping out the people you spend the most time with.
“I think the Peer Recognition Tool will be a daily morale booster and will have a positive effect on teamwork. Several of my employees have already received peer recognition, and it has really brightened their day.”
Currently, the Quest Peer Recognition includes a variety of e-certificates with numerous designs, such as Star Player, Thank You, Kudos, Extra Mile, Safety and Community Spirit.
“We get lots of requests from our volunteer project leads for some kind of recognition of those individuals that support their projects,” Fluegel said. “We wanted to address that need with this tool and include a community service recognition option.”
To use the Quest Peer Recognition tool, go to www.usaquestpoints.com and click the “Recognition” link on the left side of the page. A pull-down menu will appear with the “Quest Peer Recognition” link. Once the page opens, complete the electronic form to create the recognition certificate.
If the certificate is e-mailed, the recipient’s management also receives a copy of the recognition.
“I think there are a lot of circumstances where managers, just because they have so much going on, might not have the opportunity to note all the little ways co-workers help each other,” Fluegel said. “By receiving a copy of the peer-to-peer certificates, they are going to be given that insight and perhaps acknowledge the efforts themselves.”
The On-the-Spot Quest Points program – the other current Quest Points initiative – replaces the former American Express on-the-spot gift checks and is a new management tool to recognize outstanding daily contributions.
As employees receive points, they will have the option to redeem them for an item or accumulate additional points over time to redeem for higher value items.
Additional initiatives are being considered for inclusion in Quest Points.
“Our company is changing, and Quest Points gives us a flexible recognition system capable of being adapted and expanded as we change,” Fluegel said. “I think these tools have the potential for making a significant positive impact on USA.”
